A New Decade/ The Art Of The Singer Songwriter

by Al Goodwin on 15-Jan-11

Here's my first news/blog of 2011, firstly I wish you all the very best and look forward to your continued support, I've lots to tell.

As 2010 came to a close with a couple of cancelled shows due to the weather and let's say "man flu"

As ever when a year ends it was a time for reflection and I was thinking what is the best way forward "where have you been, what have you done"

Album sales where not going through the roof and contacts I'd made were not  offering the openings I needed then I thought to myself wait a minute in 2010 I'd started playing solo acoustic shows, my fan base had grown ten fold and I'd recorded an album I was so proud of that and in my heart I knew would get me noticed as a songwriter. "my hope everlasting for better days"

I'd had fantastic feedback praising the songs, vocals and guitar arrangements and then on I believe Dec 30th I received an e-mail titled "Al Goodwin/Publishing" and expected the classic sorry not right now standard response but BINGO! a publisher in the US was getting it and seeing the commercial potential of my songwriting and offered publishing, marketing help and 30 years experience with contacts from past positions with Polydor, Island Records and numerous others.

This made my year and along with another offer of online promotion help in the UK, yeah I'm still in negotiation and lawyers are involved from the Musicians Union. So still much to discuss.

This is a big deal for me to hand over a lot of the tasks and duties I was doing on my own, I was just picking away and I know I now have to let it go, take some risks and let the new album do the work.

Of course I'll be handing over a percentage of revenue but I just can't do everything and really want to get back in the studio.

It would be unethical for me to drop names and spill out the game plan but I'll say I'm doing this on gut instinct and have a great team growing that believe in the music, it feels right.

On a personal level my children still inspire and Alicia (4 yrs) will start school on Monday and Clarisse (1 yr) is another baby bi-lingual angel just poised in the wings and ready to let it flow.

"Feet on the ground, my head's in the clouds"

I do want to re-record more of the songs from my first album "Celebrate" the experience I gained in the studio doing "Birth, Death And In Between" taught me how to really approach doing an album and I have a superb production team and the first album left me in a creative wilderness but that time also got me in the right zone to write "The Stone That Brought The Girl" EP which I recorded at home and took me to a new level of confidence, determination and if I'm honest a kind of "don't give a fuck I'm doing this because I can attitude" and "Birth, Death And In Between" is the proud result.

"Don't you ever doubt or lose the faith"

"Won't you listen, just let me state my case"

"Was it, maybe yours or my mistake"   "How You Feeling, How You Feeling"

Thanks so much for following my muse and I still really need you on board to make this work.

Download the album, enjoy and share.

Love and music, Al.

*do, not "so" - sorry.
Typos are allowed Laurel. Thanks for taking time to follow my updates, if I'm honest it seems like the US is really starting to dig what I do. You picked up on my music years ago and you keep me keeping on. Love and music. Al x (exciting times ahead)
"This is a big deal for me to hand over a lot of the tasks and duties I was doing on my own..." It IS a big deal, but you just can't so everything on your own. Being able to delegate will allow you to focus more on your creative energies. I am so happy to hear you gathering a great team behind you. That's what it takes: Teamwork & Collaboration. We are very happy for you...
